Description: The watershed refined enhanced natural heritage system for the HRWP consists of existing natural cover (to protect), potential natural cover (areas that could be restored to provide ecosystem and habitat benefits), and contributing areas. The base layer is from the TRCA 2022 regional target NHS (2022) and was refined with HRWP land use and natural cover (2020), accounting for developing areas and the proposed Highway 413. TRCA and organizations can use this to collaborate on priority areas for securement, protection, restoration, and green infrastructure implementation projects. The new concept of contributing areas outside of the natural areas (in built portions) can be used to inform landscape planning and design as well as urban forest and green infrastructure initiatives to support ecosystem functions.
